One of the things that I’ve been looking forward to doing this summer is seeing the Dior: From Paris To The World exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art. You know it’s good when tickets have been sold out for weeks and the museum has to extend it’s hours due to high demand! I finally had my chance this past weekend and it didn’t disappoint. Check it out:
We decided to get there early since we’ve never been to the Dallas Museum of Art before and I wish we had more time in there to look at the other exhibits! We also took a moment to check out the gift shop where they had exclusive Dior exhibit items like postcards with images of the dresses that are featured, tote bags and a notebook that has one of Christian Dior’s original sketches on it. For the occasion, I decided to dress up with this new snakeskin print dress, wedges and a white bag. Don’t be afraid to dress up for this! I saw so many people with the most amazing outfits on.
Once we approached the exhibit, I was mesmerized just from the outside of it! It was a gorgeous mirror entrance with small videos of Christian Dior, himself installed into the mirror walls. The first thing you’ll see once you arrive is the all-black outfits and a tunnel which leads to the first room. Everything is very organized but crowded so at times, it felt overwhelming. The first room features the designs from various creative designers of Dior as well as runway videos playing. I fell in love with the runway sketches from shows back in the 90’s. The best part was two of my favorite models from the 90’s, Karen Mulder and Yasmeen Ghauri had their runway looks on display! What are the odds.
The next room was even better! An entire white wall lined with all-white designs. This was probably one of the most unique and visually-beautiful looking exhibits I’ve ever seen. The amount of time it must’ve taken to set everything up – I can’t imagine. This room also featured pages from Christian Dior’s travel journal and the time that he visited Dallas and accepted an award from Neiman Marcus! Although this exhibit has toured around the world, I loved how they made a focus on Dallas.
The next room was such a great contrast to the all-white room. This one featured feminine tones and colorful dresses. I even spotted Natalie Portman’s dress from the Miss Dior commercials!
My favorite room from this entire exhibit was the last room which was filled with a ceiling-high display of dresses that celebrities have worn such as Rihanna and Charlize Theron as well as more runway looks. It was the perfect way to complete the exhibit.
Overall, the wait was totally worth it! It was so much more bigger than I had expected (I thought it was only going to be one room LOL) and I was completely overwhelmed by how much there was to study and look at. I had an amazing time and I highly recommend going if you live in Dallas and love fashion and history. Originally the exhibit was going to close at the end of August but since it’s been so popular, they decided to extend it until October so take advantage of this opportunity!
