Finally, I’m reviewing my Dior saddle bag! I actually got this as a birthday gift back in February but because of the quarantine (and how precious it is to me! Seriously I didn’t want to take it out of the box lol) I haven’t gotten a chance to really wear it and do a review on until now. It’s one of the most beautiful bags that I own and it’s so special to me since it’s a re-edition of the original version from the 90s. In case you didn’t know, the 90s are my favorite era – the fashion, the shows, everything! I’ve spent a huge chunk of my life watching 90s sitcoms and wishing that I can dress like my favorite characters. Lucky me, the 90s revival is happening right now! Let’s get started:
Style 5/5
The style itself of the bag is gorgeous! The Saddle bag comes in two sizes – small and medium and a variety of different colors. The one that I got is the medium in Indigo with gold hardware. It does come in other colors, designs and different hardware.
Personally, I don’t own a lot of small shoulder bags like this and thought that it might be hard to get used to it – but this is quite comfortable! I did try on the smaller size in the store and it just looked too awkward for me. Also – some people might joke around that it looks like a liver LOL. It’s defiantly a statement piece and a style only a fashionista would love and appreciate.
One of my favorite features of this bag is the magnetic closure. It’s so EASY to open and close. Unlike other magnetic bags, it doesn’t have that circular magnetic clasp (where it takes you forever to close it properly and you have to hear the click sound). This one is built-in so you simply close the top and you’re good to go. There’s also magnetics inside of the 2 leather pieces near the D logo (sorry I’m having a hard time describing it) so every time you close it, it lays flat the exact same way. You never have to worry about the bag not looking good. It also is very secure so it doesn’t open up easily when you take the bag off of your shoulder.
Some things to note – this bag is leather and super smooth and delicate which makes me careful with it at all times to avoid scratches. One advantage of leather is that you can’t easily stain it (compared to other Dior saddle bags which are made from fabric) and can wipe off any marks. I was also worried about the gold hardware and how soft the metal would be. Luckily, the hardware does have a subtle vintage look to it (it’s not 100% shiny) so you don’t have to worry about it getting scratched since it enhances the look.
Comfort 4/5
The 90s was known for super small shoulder bags and the SA at Dior (if you live in Dallas, visit Justin at Highland Park Dior! The BEST service ever) actually told me that they updated this style in order to give it more room. While the medium is still a small bag compared to what I usually carry, the bag has enough space for your wallet, iPhone, keys and maybe some lipstick. The inside of the bag is tight so losing things isn’t possible! LOL. At times it does feel hard to fit my hand into the bag or to take out my wallet if it’s too bulky. Am I okay with that? Absolutely. It’s not enough of a problem for me to not like the bag.
As for actually carrying the bag, you have three options: in your hand, on your shoulder or buying the popular guitar strap and carrying it crossbody. I decided to not buy the guitar strap and just wear it on my shoulder. I’m SHOCKED at how comfortable it is on the shoulder. It doesn’t slip at all and it fits under my arm so natural. The only downside is that when you’re wearing a bulky jacket, it’s kinda hard to wear it on your shoulder.
Price 2/5
I’m just going to say it: this is one of the most expensive things that I own. I actually felt a little sick after purchasing it and hearing the final total LOL. I still consider myself new to the world of designer handbags so I’m not used to it haha. Compared to my Louis Vuitton personalized bag, it’s a lot more expensive and it’s definitely an investment piece. Compared to other designer bags like Chanel? It’s a normal price.
When investing a lot in these kinds of bags, I always recommend thinking about how much you’re going to wear it. I specifically wanted a neutral color that would go with all of my outfits and can be worn year-round. I also don’t see it as a trendy bag but something that’s timeless and can be worn for years.
Thanks for reading my review!
