When it comes to hair, I’ve always been the kind of person who isn’t afraid of experimenting with it and switching my look. Recently, I invested in some great hair extensions in order to add some glamour to my everyday look and decided to purchase the extensions online. While the shades of my actual hair and the extensions are pretty close, they’re not 100% the same shade and I’m always afraid that it’s noticeable! My current hair color is warm-toned while the extensions seem to be slightly cool-toned and although the difference is subtle, I decided to make it exact and thought this would be the perfect time to come up with a post all about dyeing hair extensions which I never see posts about! Here’s what you do:

The first (and most important!) step if you want to dye your hair extensions at home is to choose a high quality hair color product. You should treat your hair extensions the same way as your real hair and use products that will keep it vibrant and healthy. One of my favorite at home hair color products is Schwarzkopf color ULTÎME® which I’ve used for the past couple of years and can always depend on it for shine, color freshness, and the best part is that it looks vibrant even after weeks have gone by! I decided to go with the 7.0 Dark Blonde shade.

Next, get your extensions ready for the hair dye by first washing them with a gentle shampoo if you frequently use product on them and then combing it out so there’s no tangles. Afterwards, get the hair dye ready by mixing the developer and color together and shaking the bottle and apply the dye in even layers. I recommend buying 2 bottles of hair dye (one for your hair and one for the extensions) because it’s better to have too much hair dye then to not have enough and end up having streaky and uneven amounts of color on your actual hair or extensions.

Once you’ve waited the proper amount of time for the dye to set in, wash it out with warm water and use the Blue Conditioning Treatment which comes with the set. I love the fact that this takes away brassy tones which is so useful when you’re a blonde but this time around I decided to not leave it on as long since I wanted my hair color to be a bit warmer. Leave the conditioner on for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water for extra shine.
T H E R E S U L T S
The results are a gorgeous shade of blonde (perfect for summer) with my extensions perfectly matching! It’s amazing how the shade that’s shown on the box is the exact shade that you end up getting on your hair and extensions. No unexpected results here! Oh and did I mention the photo above was taken 2 weeks after I dyed my hair and there’s no fading?! Crazy! I always have a tough time with blonde hair since my natural hair color is so dark and it always seems like every time I wash it the color changes but nope, never with this brand! As always I’m impressed by Schwarzkopf products and I’m looking forward to trying more products from their line in the future.
