Oh Charleston, you’re just so charming ♥ It’s so easy to fall in love with this southern city and I’m so glad I went during spring break because I had the best time! You have no idea how sad I was to leave (then again I’m always sad to come back to freezing Rochester haha, please tell me I’m not the only person who hates their hometown?) but I know one day I’ll be back. In the meantime, I thought it would be great if I added another post to the travel section of my blog since it’s pretty quiet over there. Traveling is an expensive hobby and it’s hard doing it a lot when you’re a college kid but I’m happy to say that my trip to Charleston was actually pretty affordable! Highly recommend it for college students who have wanderlust. I’m going to post a guide to Charleston filled with tips on what to do, eat, and see later on this week so stay tuned!
On the first day, we landed around noon and got to check in at our hotel early (#winning) and decided to head to King Street which is within walking distance from our hotel. The first thing I noticed about Charleston is how colorful everything is! It’s gorgeous and so different from where I live. I’m so glad we splurged and decided to get a hotel in the downtown-historic district area because everything is pretty much walking distance. That’s another thing I love about the city, it’s walkable! When you live in a place like Rochester, everything is so far away and your only choice is to drive. It’s so refreshing and I personally think that’s the best way to really get to know a city.
King Street was packed with endless boutiques, chain stores, and restaurants and what I consider to be the go-to place in Charleston for fashionistas. We spent all day there! haha.
The next day the first thing we did at 9am was get breakfast at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit which is a super popular biscuit shop. I got the buttermilk biscuits with pimento cheese (they put pimento cheese on everything here!) and I swear I could eat 50 of them cause it was THAT GOOD. Southern food is the best…
Then we did the typical touristy stuff like visiting St. Philips Church which is a famous landmark. It’s kinda become my very own tradition to take a selfie at famous landmarks (I started the tradition back during my London & Paris trip!). Right down the street is Dock Street Theater and a few blocks away is St. Michael’s Church which makes some great photo opportunities. For a majority of the time, we explored so many streets just to see what colorful houses we would come across. Sometimes it’s nice to not have a plan and to just go with the flow.
On our last day, I met up with the lovely Ashley from Always All Dressed Up and she showed me around Waterfront Park (where Pineapple Fountain is located), Battery Park and the epic…Rainbow Row! It’s funny how you’ll see something on the Internet a million times but it’s so much different in person. That’s what I love about traveling!
Thanks for reading!
