Hey guys! Sorry for not posting a few days, as you can guess I went back to college this week. I thought since my “Why I Changed My Major” post was such a hit (seriously, guys thank you for all the views!) I thought I should post a little follow-up to it.
This semester is my first semester with my new major and to anyone who’s ever switched majors before you would know how scary it is to start studying something new in school. Luckily for me, I switched majors from business to media management so there are some similarities between the two. The only difference is now I’ll be studying what I love, doing a lot more writing, and learning about some fun subjects (seriously accounting was my nightmare when I was a business major!). I’ve honestly forgot what it’s like to be happy in school and actually be passionate about what I’m learning. Business seemed to drain me constantly but with media, I found that I’m actually eager to learn in class. So this is what college is supposed to feel like! haha.
Whenever you switch a major, it’s always nerve-wrecking on the first day because you think to yourself “what am I gonna do if I don’t like it?!” yet right when I sat down for my first class I knew this was for me. It was just that gut feeling you get when you know everything is going to be okay. I have to admit, it took a long time to get here and finally find that one thing that I love but I’m glad I finally figured it all out at the end. I thought this day would never come! The only regret I have is that I never listened to myself from the very beginning. I could’ve saved a lot of time…and money haha. At least I’m finally here right?
I could already tell this semester is going to be amazing and it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders ever since I admitted to myself that business isn’t for me. I’m telling you guys, if you’re not doing what you love then you’re wasting your time! Stop listening to other people who tell you what careers are the best for you. You know what’s best for you and that’s final. I hope no one else goes through the same mistakes that I did but sometimes it’s necessary for us to fail because that’s the only way we’ll ever learn.
My best advice to anyone who’s just switched majors or is thinking about it, go out and just try it. The more new things you try, the more you’ll know what you like and don’t like. Being a college kid is tough but you will eventually find what you love. Just be patient and trust yourself. No one has it all figured out and the idiots who say they do are in denial. As long as you’re always moving forward, then you’re bound to succeed eventually.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know what you think in the comments below.
