Hey guys and welcome to my new series of posts called “The Perfumer Diaries”! In each of these posts, I’ll be reviewing popular fragrances and giving you my opinion on them based on my two (soon to be three!) years of experience as being a “perfumer” or in other words someone who works in the fragrance industry. Believe or not, a lot goes into helping someone choose their signature fragrance and hopefully these posts will help you to come one step closer to finding your own! So without further ado…here’s Dolce & Gabbana’s latest perfume: Dolce
Right away, many people would be tempted to try this perfume due to the girly-shaped bottle which is actually quite unusual for Dolce & Gabbana. Dolce & Gabbana usually sticks to sleek and simple designed bottles that goes with their image of celebrating powerful and sexy women. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with change! I personally like the flower shaped top and I think it would look great on a vanity.
Let’s get down to the details: the top note is defiantly floral and I’m guessing it’s marzipan since that’s what the flower on the bottle cap is. Other top notes that I can detect are water lily and neroli which as you can tell, are pictured in the ad above. After you first spray the fragrance and it settles down, you can also pick up the scent of musk. Flowers and musk? Sounds a bit granny right? But it’s actually quite clean and not overwhelming at all. It’s a great everyday fragrance since it’s so light and doesn’t give you a headache or to anyone else around you!
As for longeivity, it only lasted 3-4 hours on me which is quite sad since it is a eau de parfum and is considered the “heaviest” of perfume formulas. Typically eau de parfum should last the entire day and still have a faint trace of smell the next day on your clothes! Very disappointed.
Bottom line: I give this a 7/10
Why? It doesn’t “wow” me and I don’t think the perfume is worth the price especially from a brand like Dolce & Gabbana which is known to have unique scents. If this is your first time buying designer perfume or want to buy a gift for someone but want to keep it “safe” as far as scents go then I think this is a good choice. If you’re a college girl and you’re looking for a designer perfume to wear everyday then I think this would be what you’re looking for. Other than that, I don’t think many people who are perfume fanatics would buy this because they would have something similar to it already in their collection. Not to say that this is a horrible smelling perfume! It’s just very clean and simple and some people like that and some people don’t.
