I can’t tell you how many times a day I hear a kid around my age say “I don’t know what I’m doing with my life”. Now that school is starting back up, I’ll be hearing more of this but also feeling the pressure myself. It’s scary not knowing who you are or what you want to do for the rest of your life but at least we’re not the only ones that feel this way! I truly believe that every single human being on this planet that lives in a first-world country goes through the whole “lost college kid” phase and eventually becomes who they are destined to be.
Of course, not every college kid will admit to feeling lost and not having a clue about their lives. In life you will come across many idiots and I’m sure you’ve come across that one idiot who thinks they’re so damn sure about everything. I swear, nothing’s worse than an idiot in denial. Let’s just face the fact here that NO ONE IN THEIR 20’S AND POSSIBLY 30’S KNOWS FOR SURE WHAT THEY’RE DOING WITH THEIR LIVES. Glad that’s out of the way…
So what do you do if you’re not one of these idiots? Just like Brandon aka the creator of Humans of New York said “Just work. Don’t wait”. I believe that the truly intelligent people in this world are the ones who are constantly wondering about new possibilities and going out there to find out more about them. They’re the ones who take on new opportunities so they can learn more about themselves. They’re not afraid of the process and don’t care about the time it takes to get there because they know it’s for their own good at the end. Remember, a life filled with mistakes is always better than a life spent doing nothing. Imagine how boring that is! Go out there and try out everything.
Now action is the first step so what’s the second? Acceptance. Accepting the fact that you’re going to make a lot of mistakes along the way and that it’s not a straight-forward process is going to take a little getting used to. But once you accepted it, you’ll realize how much easier it is to deal with all this stuff when you have a calm mind. Relax, take a breath, and trust yourself. You’ve come this far, how could you possibly think you’re going to fail now?! The only way you’re going to fail is if you sit on the couch and do nothing. No one ever really accomplished anything in their lives when they just sat down and “thought” about what they should do.
Hopefully this post helped at least one of you but if not, I hope every single one of you eventually becomes who you’ve always wanted to be in life. I hope you all live out your dreams and have the courage to keep moving forward if everything doesn’t work out. Most of all, I hope you at least have some fun and can smile through this sometimes, painful process.
Until next time lovelies,
-Ruya
