If you follow me on Instagram, you might’ve seen my visit to Glow Medspa in Colleyville, TX last month for a dermaplaning session on my Stories. Ever since then, I’ve gotten tons of questions (I know, cliche blogger thing to say lol) about my results so I finally got around to writing this post. What better time than while stuck at home in quarantine? LOL.
In case you’re not familiar with dermaplaning, it’s an exfoliating skincare treatment which involves a small blade gently being pulled on your skin. It sounds scary – but it’s totally gentle and pain-free! I almost went to sleep during the treatment because it was so soothing haha. Dermaplaning results in a smoother texture, removes dead skin cells and peachfuzz which can trap dirt and oils, and allows for deeper product penetration. It can also diminish the look of fine lines and reduce acne scars. The results are instant and lasts around 3-4 weeks.
Before we started the treatment, they wanted me to do an evaluation of my skin. They brought me over to this special machine which took 3 photos of my skin in UV light (to see my sun damage), polarized light (to see my wrinkles), and one in normal light. I was mind-blown by the evaluation! The machine tells you the “age” of your skin and myn turned out to be 28 (even though I’m 26 but they assured me that it was pretty good lol). I learned that most of my sun damage was on my chin even though my chin looks perfectly normal. They explained that as you get older, the damage begins to show and appears from below the surface and that I have to begin wearing SPF on a daily basis instead of just on days “where I know I’m going to be on the beach or outside for a long time”.
Next, it was time to prepare my skin for the treatment which involved cleansing my skin. Then, she took a tiny scapel and began gently running it through my face, section by section. Of course, the scapel runs down the sides of your face and I was shocked by how much peachfuzz I actually had! There was a part of me that worried that my peachfuzz would grow back more aggressive but she assured me that it won’t and it will follow the same growth pattern as before. Once she was done with the actual dermaplaning, she applied SPF and moisturizer since my skin is more sensitive to the sun with that top layer gone. While she was applying it, I instantly noticed that the products were absorbing into my skin much quicker than before. Almost like it was gliding, such a great feeling!
My results? The first thing I noticed when I looked in the mirror was this gorgeous glow which I haven’t seen in ages! I looked brighter and refreshed compared to my tired and dull skin from earlier in the morning. Check out the before/after photos below! There was a bit of redness and itchiness (especially where my peachfuzz used to be!) after the treatment but nothing major.
While it’s not super dramatic compared to getting something like a chemical peel – it’s a great treatment for someone that doesn’t exfoliate enough (aka me!) and you want something that’s quick with instant results. I also did find that foundation looks SO MUCH BETTER on my skin after the treatment. Currently, it’s been past 4 weeks since I’ve gotten the treatment and my skin still seems smoother than it has been in the past. Also, my peachfuzz hasn’t grown back which is a great sign! lol. Overall, I’ve noticed my skin isn’t clogged (especially in the t-zone area) like it was in the past but I would love to get more treatments in the future and highly recommend it to everyone!
