Last month at Rochester Fashion Week, I met the lovely Sarah from SJR Style Inc. After chatting for a couple weeks, she ended up asking me to be a co-stylist for a photoshoot she was coordinating. Of course I accepted yet little did I know of all the hard work stylists do! In theory it sounds easy to pick out outfits for someone else but it’s so much more than that!
The first problem was that we’ve never seen the model in person and only had her sizes to go off of. The way clothes look can vary from person to person so Sarah and I had to make sure we had a variety of clothes to choose from. The second problem was that the whole photoshoot was going to be in black and white. Naturally when we pick out clothes, we try to come up with outfits that “go-together” color-wise, yet that means nothing when it’s in black and white. Instead of focusing on color, we had to focus on textures and patterns so it can stand out in photos. The fur coat and the sequin, patterned skirt is a great example of this.
Overall, this opportunity made me appreciate all the work that goes into getting the perfect shot. I have a huge amount of respect for all the hairstylists, photographers, models, and stylists that do this everyday for a living! It’s a huge amount of work filled with challenges, but when you love what you’re doing then it’s all worth it.
Thank you to SJR Style Inc. for giving me this opportunity! ♥ Since we’re still in the process of editing, I’ll be posting more photos once they’re all released in the future!
Until next time lovelies,
